Beneficial Insects

Attractants can be used to encourage insects such as butterflies, lacewings and ladybirds to visit your garden. These work well in conjuction with insect habitats.

These habitats and feeders are great for protecting insects once they have decided to visit your garden, particularly during bad weather, nightfall and winter. They also give opportunities to see insects more closely.

Lacewing larvae are voracious eaters and can be an effective treatment for aphid infestations. Lacewing larvae tend to eat more than ladybird larvae but only eat pollen as adults.

Both the adults and larvae of ladybirds eat aphids (amongst other pests) and thus provide a more long term solution to infestations in the garden.
