Online Catalogue | Seeds | Flower Seeds | Wild Flower Seeds | Strawberry, Wild
Also known as wood or woodland strawberry, Alpine strawberry and European strawberry, Fregaria vesca is the wild version of the strawberry. Archeological evidence suggests that these small fruits have been eaten by humans since the Stone Age. More recently the garden strawberry has become the standard strawberry variety due to its larger fruits, although some might say that this has been at the expense of taste.Given the right conditions the plant will flower nearly all summer and, if there is enough light, will produce small fruits which are red when ripe. When sowing, choose a good compost, and plant in pots. Then leave in a cold frame over winter and plant out the seedlings when large enough in the spring.
